Projet Fil-rouge
How can I structure a collaborative project for my learners over 3 months that allows them to apply their skills in a practical setting?
_Problem
To enable participants to carry out genuine user research.
Write up a requirements document for a sector I’m familiar with.
Ensure consistency with the pedagogical progression of the various training modules.
_Tools
Figjam + Figma
Office 365
🚧 Challenge : timing and quality
3 months hands-on project to build professional prototypes in teams of 2-4. Those prototypes will be showcased to a review board.
_The project
Design a software solution that can be accessed both on desktop computers and mobile devices. This software should streamline the process of connecting training organizations with qualified IT teachers, facilitating the assignment of training missions and enabling effective pedagogical tracking.
_My role as a teacher designer
📐 Scoping : making sure the project is easy enough but complete including both mobile and desk interfaces.
📋 Drafting : list all the functional requirements. I’ve intentionally left room for students to challenge these requirements, aiming to foster a professional mindset and avoid them simply following orders.
🧪 Making : To assess the project’s feasibility by building a complete prototype.
Two weeks of design sprints were followed by a peer review of a 15-page study. The project was then implemented in two weeks.
_Scoping
I developped a comprehensive overview of the needs for both teachers and training organizations. Identified key features, desirable features, and potential challenges.
_Drafting
I used diagrams to map out every detail, ensuring there were no gaps in the functionality. The end result was a 14-page document.
I encouraged participants to suggest new features or to critique the existing ones. Some teams came up with fantastic ideas like adding gamification elements or integrating AI.

_learning in project mode
Students from five POEC classes, including three from 2023/2024 Docaposte Institute POEC program.
During those 3 months I taught :
- Agile Scrum
- Functional analysis
- Benchmarking
- Exploration
- Ideation
- Wireframing
- Prototyping with Figma
- creating a design system with Zeroheight
- Testing interfaces
Two groups of students were able to have their prototypes tested by people undergoing tester training on campus. This was a huge advantage, allowing them to experience the full double diamond cycle.
