The best way to learn is to teach
Preparation
Every training starts with a program: defining learning objectives, assessing participants’ skill levels, determining the number of attendees, and setting the training duration.
Ideally, I conduct an initial meeting with a few future participants to have a clear idea of their needs and tailor a customized course program.
Creation and upkeep of learning materials and assessments
I adopt an agile lindset for each new class, building upon existing resources to develop customized training programs.
This involves incorporating participants feedback, making sure content is up to date, and experimenting with innovative teaching methods.
As a designer, I mostly use Figjam and Figma to organize my files and share resources.
For courses leading to a degree, there are ongoing assessments and practice tests. I create the tests to track everyone’s progress.
Training sessions
I enjoy designing workshops that simulate real-world work environments.
I collect feedback from trainees after each session to improve my courses.
A trainee thought the PowerPoints were a bit visually dull for a design course.
I realized that I hadn’t updated the presentation in a while.
This feedback gave me a most needed push to refresh my courses !
Graphic facilitation
Whether I’m teaching in person or online, I use a graphics tablet to draw and explain concepts in real time, add notes to my presentation.
My little doodles are always a hit!
Trainees are my end-users…
… and my best source of motivation
It’s so rewarding to hear how our former trainees are doing !
